Program Description

Event Details

Taking a journey into Japanese Matcha! We’ll explore what matcha is, how it’s grown, what makes good matcha, gradings, and how it’s prepared, both traditionally and in modern ways. Participants will also learn about the health benefits, the artistry behind cultivation, and the cultural significance of matcha in Japanese society. And of course—a tasting of ceremonial grade matcha will be provided.

Joyce and Matt Zacharewicz founded Short and Stout Tea Company in 2011. We sold tea at farmers markets and craft fairs for a couple of years before we had an opportunity to open a brick-and-mortar store in our community, Guilderland, NY. Today, Short and Stout is a full-service tea lounge, which offers premium tea both in-store and online. For more than a decade, we’ve spent time learning about and appreciating tea in all of its varied forms. We’ve traveled to Thailand, China, and Japan to source our teas. This allows us to gain an in-depth knowledge in different tea cultures as well as establishing a one-to-one relationship with the farmers. Over the past 10 years, we’ve given nearly a hundred presentation to share our experiences with the community. We invite you to join us in our tea journey.
