The Vietnam War changed the GIs who fought it and the nation that sent them there. Yet there remains a cultural tendency to hold the War at arm’s length, as evidenced by how little Americans know of its history and true causes. We will examine how America slid into one of the most traumatic periods in its history.
Michael Rivest has been an adjunct professor at HVCC and the College of St. Rose (until its closure) for 11 years. He has written extensively for the Albany Times Union and other publications. He is currently writing a book about the Vietnam War.
Todays session will cover the following:
- The Genesis of a War
- Know Your Enemy
- Ancient Fight for Independence
- The French
- Vo Nguyen Giap
- Ho Chi Minh
